This is the 16th century church at Luz De Tavira. Much of this building is origional and it boasts one of the finest examples of Manueline art around the southern door.

Stretching along the coast of the eastern Algarve the Ria Formosa national park is a haven for birds and wildlife.
There are mile upon mile of sand dunes and salt marshes interspersed with channels like the one above.
Be careful when exploring though as the tides come in very rapidly and it is easy to get cut off if you have no boat.

They are wonderful spectacles and almost the entire population turns out to take part.

The cost of living in Portugal is among the lowest in Europe.
Many people in Portugal still make their living from the land or sea like this clam picker seen working the bed of the Gilao river in Tavira.
It looks idyllic but it is backbreaking work and the financial rewards are small.
